BARBARA S. KILROY

Barbara Kilroy brings over 30 years of dedicated experience in the field of medical malpractice defense to Schaeffer, Cota & Rosen. Her career is distinguished by a rare and powerful combination of clinical nursing expertise and sharp legal acumen.

Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, cum laude, from the University of Portland in 1981. She began her professional journey as a registered nurse at Oregon Health Sciences University, where she spent five years providing care to chronically and terminally ill children. This early hands-on experience in healthcare gave Barbara a deep, personal understanding of the medical field—insight that continues to inform and strengthen her legal practice today.

Barbara returned to her native Southern California to pursue her legal education, earning her Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in 1989. Since then, she has built an accomplished and enduring career in the field of medical malpractice defense. With decades of experience, Barbara has consistently delivered excellent results for her clients. Her unique and effective integration of legal knowledge with medical insight has contributed to her exceptional trial record, having prevailed in nearly every case she has taken to verdict.

Barbara’s reputation as a skilled litigator and trusted advisor in complex medical-legal matters reflects her dedication, strategic thinking, and deep commitment to excellence in legal advocacy.

Barb’s other passions include her family, as well as the culinary arts. Her enthusiasm for cooking led her to teach classes for both adults and children. She continues her volunteer work with the Santa Barbara Food Bank and a local nonprofit, where she teaches children the fundamentals of healthy cooking and eating.
