LAURA L. COTA
Laura brings with her several years of varied legal experience, including professional negligence litigation. For the last six years, Laura’s legal career has focused on civil litigation. She found that defending physicians in malpractice cases pairs well with her background in science. She also happens to find the work particularly exciting and fulfilling.

Laura graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and the headed west to attend UCSB’s doctoral program in biopsychology. She later graduated as the valedictorian of her law school class at the Ventura College of Law.

Laura had a career prior to law, working for the County of Ventura in Adult Protective Services, investigating allegations of abuse and neglect against seniors and dependent adults. She also worked on special projects related to elder abuse litigation. While working for the county full time and attending law school at night, Laura also volunteered numerous hours with various Ventura and Santa Barbara County court services.

Laura is a member of the Southern California Association of Defense Counsel, Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association, the Ventura County Bar Association and the Ventura County Inns of Court. She has annually volunteered her time to the Ventura County Mock Trial Competition as coach, judge and scorer.

Laura is a outdoor enthusiast and an avid runner, with a marathon and several shorter distance competitive runs under her belt. She loves traveling, reading, spending time with her two enormous dogs (Bella and Maximus), and rooting for her Boston sports teams, especially the Pats.
